Kaizer Chiefs say they are not dwelling on past results as they have to focus on future games.

Amakhosi want to quickly forget about their 1-nil loss away to Cape Town City last Sunday, as they prepare to face yet another side from the Western Cape.

Chiefs will host Stellenbosch FC at the FNB stadium on Wednesday evening.

The 7th of January 2025 marks a significant milestone in the history of Kaizer Chiefs.

Amakhosi are celebrating their 55th anniversary since they were formed in Phefeni, Orlando West in Soweto. However, there’s nothing much to celebrate when it comes to recent results and silverware. The last time Chiefs won a trophy was in 2015.

Goalkeeper, Bruce Bvuma, who is one of the longest serving stalwarts in the current crop of Chiefs players, is keen for positive results.

“As a team we need to do better, we are very much aware that we have been conceding goals and losing games as well. This is something that we are working on. It’s a team’s thing that I believe it’s work in progress and hopefully we get it right soon enough so that we can start keeping clean sheets and win games.”

Amakhosi were formed in modest beginnings in Soweto, with the aim to transcend football and build a heritage rooted in the rich culture and spirit of South Africans.

This is the reason defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe says it will be a shame not to mark the team’s 55th anniversary with a win against Stellies on Wednesday. “Our chairman is a very respectable man. We honour him. It will be a shame to lose on Wednesday. We are working hard so that we get three points on Wednesday.”

Chiefs have registered only one victory in their last five matches, losing two and playing to a draw in the other two.

Botswana international, Ditlhokwe, believes that they tend to lose shape when they react after conceding.

Bvuma has since got the nod ahead of the other goalkeepers in the team’s starting eleven.

But he says it’s healthy competition, while giving credit to the charismatic goalkeeper coach.

“The clean sheet will come, it’s not because it’s me, Brandon, Ntwari or Bontle playing, but it’s a team thing. If we play well and defend well, I want to play and keep the number one spot. We have a quality goalkeeper coach and he is helping us. Even if I’m going through something, I easily call him. He is a father figure and demands a lot from us.”

The Kaizer Chiefs-Stellenbosch FC match will kick off at half past seven on Wednesday evening at the FNB stadium.
