Many young and aspiring players are eager to impress in the Carling All Stars team to become regular players for their respective senior teams in the near future. The Carling All Stars team will play against Magesi FC in the Carling Black Label Cup match at Orlando stadium on Saturday.
This will be the second edition of the Cup match. It was incepted last season when Carling Knockout champions, Stellenbosch FC lost to the Carling All Stars team 2-1 in a match in Polokwane. In that match, many young players featured for the all-stars team and grabbed their opportunities with both hands.
And it will be no different for Kaizer Chiefs player Aden MacCarthy, who will be looking to impress and stake his claim in the Amakhosi senior team.
“I am very delighted to be part of the team. It’s an opportunity for myself to showcase my talent, and I know what this platform can bring, and I have seen teammates make use of it and I will take it as it comes and make the best of the moment,” says Aden McCarthy, Carling all-stars XI player.
Another player that wants to impress is the Mamelodi Sundowns youngster Gomolemo Kekana, who also wants to break into the star-studded Brazilians team.
Kekana is hoping he can also put in a good showing to impress his team’s senior technical team.
“I think it’s just an opportunity to showcase my talent and thanks to everyone who voted for me I’m glad to be part of the team I am looking forward to giving my best for the team to win,”
Kaizer Chiefs striker Ashley Du Preeez will be representing the all-stars team for the second time, although he will start from the bench. Du Preez is encouraging the youngsters to make full use of their opportunities.
“My advice I can give to the younger players, it’s a huge opportunity to showcase their talent if you want to be in the first team in your club, it’s an opportunity for you to express yourself and just to go there and enjoy the competition,”
Coach Jose Riviero will also be in charge for the second time. His team Orlando Pirates suffered an upset when they lost to Magesi FC in the first round of the Carling Knockout Cup at home. But the Spaniard will not be thinking about revenge when they tackle the Premiership newcomers in Soweto on Saturday.
“Personally, it’s the team that eliminated us from this competition early, it was a difficult day, very strange one, I don’t see it as an opportunity for revenge but this Saturday it’s an opportunity for the guys to go for the good show and we must understand that Magesi is a good definition of a good team,”
Saturday afternoon’s match kicks off at 15h30 and will be broadcast live on SABC 1.
