The court case against a 41-year-old Congolese national arrested in connection with the Zanzou club assault in Pretoria has been postponed to next week Monday.
The man was apprehended in Yeoville last week, when Johannesburg Metro Police Officers conducted patrols in the area.
This comes after a video depicting young men in their 20s being sexually violated at the club, went viral over recent weeks.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana says the suspect will remain in police custody until his next appearance at the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court.
“This matter today postponed to the 3rd of March for bail information. So basically what that means is that the state needs to do an identity parade of some of the victims that still needs to identify the accused. And number 2, the state needs to verify the documents handed in, to the court to verify whether indeed he is legal in the country.”
