The AmaZulu royal family has welcomed the Supreme Court of Appeal’s (SCA) judgment, which overturned a High Court ruling invalidating President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recognition of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.
The President had appealed the judgment, arguing that he acted lawfully in recognizing the King as successor to the throne.
The Supreme Court of Appeal found in favour of the President, dismissing Prince Mbonisi Bekithemba KaBhekuzulu’s application with costs.
In a statement, AmaZulu royal spokesperson Prince Thulani Zulu says the judgment brings closure to the long-standing matter, confirming King Misuzulu as the rightful monarch of the Zulu nation.
Prince Thulani says the judgment confirms the legitimacy of the royal family’s identification of the successor to King Goodwill Zwelithini in 2021.
